Seeding Tournament Rules

The purpose of our seeding tournament is to evaluate the competitive levels of participating teams before the regular season begins. While games will have scores, the primary focus is on assessing team play—not winning at all costs. Coaches, players, and parents should approach these games with sportsmanship and development in mind.

Game Format

  • Warmup: 2 minutes
  • Game Time: 25-minute running clock
  • The clock does not stop for any reason (injuries, penalties, timeouts, etc.)
  • No overtime or shootouts
  • Handshakes: Skipped to maximize ice time
  • Stay on Schedule: Games must end on time—no delays or overages

Conduct & Intent

  • These games are for evaluation, not standings
  • Avoid unsportsmanlike behavior, especially near the end of games:
  • No excessive arguing with refs
  • No unnecessary line changes to waste time
  • Coaches are expected to manage the pace respectfully
  • Teams must report which players are absent from Seeding tournament and indicate any high end “game changing” player who is not playing
  • Each team is responsible for their GameSheet roster and must make sure all players who are not playing are marked that way in GameSheet

Penalties

  • Minor Penalty: 1 minute
  • Major Penalty: 3 minutes + player ejection
  • Start timing penalties at puck drop
  • Repeat Offenders:
  • Any player receiving 2 major penalties during seeding may be suspended for the remainder of the tournament
  • The commissioner reserves final judgment
  • Serious Incidents: Notify the league commissioner immediately if anything egregious occurs
